Privacy policy

WalkGem (“we”, “us”) is operated by SIA STUDIO F5, Dzirnavu street 72-17, Riga, Latvia. This policy explains what data the WalkGem app and website collect, why, and the choices you have. Contact: hello@walkgem.app.

1. Data we collect

• Account data: email address, display name, password (stored hashed), profile avatar, and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the identifier and email they share with us.
• Activity and health data: with your permission, steps, distance, active calories and floors climbed from Apple Health or Health Connect, plus motion and activity data from your device.
• Location data: with your permission, precise location during walks, route sessions, live challenges and Places check-ins, including in the background while a walk is active.
• Social data: friends, invites, challenges, league results and feed activity.
• Purchase data: if you subscribe to Premium, Apple or Google processes the payment. We receive your subscription status, not your card details.
• Device and technical data: push notification token, device type, OS and app version, IP address and diagnostic logs.

2. How we use data

• To run the app: track activity, challenges, leagues, routes, streaks and gems.
• To show your profile and progress to friends and in rankings, according to your privacy settings.
• To send notifications such as reminders and challenge updates. You can turn them off.
• To process subscriptions and unlock Premium features.
• To keep the service secure, prevent cheating and abuse, and fix bugs.
• To comply with the law.

We do not sell your personal data and we do not use health or location data for advertising.

3. Sharing

• Other users: your display name, avatar, step totals, league rank and achievements, according to your privacy settings.
• Service providers: hosting, push delivery (Apple APNs, Google FCM), sign-in (Apple, Google), subscription billing (Apple App Store, Google Play), email and maps/places services. They process data only on our instructions.
• Legal: when required by law or to protect rights and safety.
• Business transfer: if we merge or are acquired, data may transfer under this policy.

4. Health data

Health data read from Apple Health or Health Connect is used only to provide WalkGem features. It is not used for advertising or data brokering and is not shared with third parties except as needed to run the service.

5. Retention

We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account we delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except what we must keep for legal or security reasons, such as billing records.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live (including the EU/EEA under GDPR), you may access, correct, export or delete your data, object to or restrict processing, and withdraw consent at any time. You can delete your account in the app settings or email hello@walkgem.app. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

7. International transfers

Your data may be processed outside your country. Where required, we use safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.

8. Security

We use encryption in transit (HTTPS) and access controls. No system is perfectly secure.

9. Children

WalkGem is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect their data; contact us to have it removed.

10. Changes

We will post updates here and notify you in the app about material changes.
